The funny thing about life is that nothing is guaranteed, and nothing is certain, and this includes the capacity for change at a moment’s notice.

We all had the moment in our lives when things changed forever, whether it was the first time puckering up from a lemon or the first car accident.

The truth is that life is packed full of these moments, the life-altering periods that shape the people we become, and there is only so much that can be done to prepare for them.

A wise man once informed me that they did not expect anything from life and therefore was not disappointed by any outcome. Staying positive never hurts, either.

How Can Life Change in an Instant?

Take this example, you’re driving down the road, and everything is going like usual; traffic is moving at a typical rate of speed, the roads are clear, and the sky is too.

Yet, without warning, a gust of wind shifts your car just enough to the right that a bicyclist hits your car. They flip over the top of your car, and at that moment, three lives change in an instant.

First, the passenger had never seen or been in an accident before, while the driver will now have slight trauma every time she drives by a cyclist, and then you have the bike rider who will now need to recover from a broken bone.

Does it Happen to Everyone?

This most certainly happens to everyone. It happens at the moment of birth, as we go from warm and comfortable to freezing and exposed. Then, as we grow, the first time we fall and hurt ourselves will forever be ingrained into the tracks of our minds.

Some experiences will have a bigger impact than others, but there will always be those that inspire us. Each person in their life will have a defining set of moments or memory that recreates a feeling, and from it springs character and personality.

Everyone, every day, will have something happen that will change their reality from the simple smile of a person at the coffee shop or waking up grateful.

How Can You Adapt if Your Life Changes?

The important aspect of a species’ ability to survive and continue to survive for generations later comes down to the ability to adapt to the changes in life.

Whether it be the climate, the social atmosphere, or the life-altering injury that ended a sports career, there will be the need for that individual to make changes in order to continue living and pursuing happiness.

One trick will be to find something that is a solid point in your life. For example, a simple passion like reading or talking with friends can be the pivot point in which to make changes to adapt.

Does it Mean You Should Live in the Moment?

There are many ways of life and life philosophies. Many that are stress-free and healthy will talk about focusing on the present.

Not stressing about the future or re-traumatizing yourself by going over past mistakes, but by staying in the moment, a person can make the best of their time.

I am not going to say you have to live like this, and there are personality types that require having their lives planned out to a certain point before they are comfortable, which makes it difficult for them to adapt to certain situations.

What are Some Good Quotes about Changes?

To start, a favorite of mine is Maya Angelou, who spoke about the change in a matter of perspective and point of view, saying, “If you do not like something, change it. If you cannot change it, change your attitude.”

Another good saying comes from Siddartha: “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

As if to say, good things come in threes. This last one comes from Black Elk: “Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back again to where they are.

A person’s life is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves.”

Final Thoughts on Your Life Can Change in an Instant

Not every change in life will feel positive. On the contrary, some of the hardest times in life will be the most rewarding, for they teach us about many aspects of life and how to appreciate the good times.

Life can change in an instant. Major events happen without warning to everyone, most in the form of death.

We all must experience the impacts of death, change, and loss, but all of these give us a chance to stand back up, dust ourselves off, and take another step forward.
